The man we have called "Doubting Thomas" for two thousand years gave us the highest confession of Christ's deity recorded in the Gospels. The very disciple who refused to believe without evidence became the first to call Jesus, plainly and without qualification, "My Lord and my God."
Thomas was not faithless. He was honest. When the other ten told him they had seen the risen Lord, he asked for what they had received: a personal encounter. The Lord did not rebuke him for asking. Eight days later, Jesus stood among them and offered Thomas exactly what he had asked for.
Tradition holds that Thomas carried the gospel further east than any other apostle — into Parthia, Persia, and finally India, where he was martyred. The Mar Thoma Christians of Kerala trace their faith back to him. His teaching, preserved in the Acts of Thomas, emphasized that the kingdom is built not with worldly palaces but with souls saved.
Honest doubt that turns to Christ becomes unshakable faith. Thomas did not stay in his doubt — he came back to the gathering of the saints. The Lord met him there. He will meet you there too.
